Somewhere in the transition from garden living to desperately holding to the lie that was eaten at the tree of knowledge, we have almost completely lost sight of who we were made to be."In the beginning" we were free, truely free. Living daily in communion with God. His child , His friend, His love. His abundance feeding us life in an intimacy that allowed us to hear His thoughts, feel His heart, inhaling His very breath. Consuming Him and being consumed by Him.
The Hebrew says it like no other (I am beginning to wonder if Hebrew is not infact the language of God Himself!) When mankind nurished himself from the Tree of (the) Knowledge (of good and evil), the picture that the Hebrew word paints is that we left the place of the divine and have now entered into the place of opinion. Just as the deciever had said..."you will be like God knowing good and evil", right and wrong, making desicions from your own understanding.. forming an opinion.
Christ as well as thro all the Tanakh speaks of dying to self. Giving up our fruit eating right to be "as God". That "it is no longer I that lives but He who is in me" (Gal.2:20)

Laura,
I simply love your musing, thinking out loud, living out loud thoughts!
As idyllic as the "Garden" scene was or imagined in our thoughts, Man, Adam and Eve related to God as 'created' beings, not as us birthed sons.
Their relationship was one where by God came to them externally.
Without the direct engagement of the Father, Son and Spirt revealing our son-ship we will continue although birthed by of Him, relate to him apart from that spirit of son-ship-adoption that is our abiding birth right.
Their being free was so true, but true freedom was to be consumated in their freely choosing to BE joined to the Lord God Himself, by eating from the tree of Life.
He that is joined to the Lord IS one spirit!
